CIDER TASTING + Q&A

Wandering Aengus and Anthem's Todd Hutchen will be in town this week, so we're throwing together a cider tasting on the back patio at Tiger!Tiger! For $15, guests will get six tasters all the while learning about ciders in this interactive experience. This is limited to 25 people.

The following will be served in six ounce glasses on draught: Anthem Apple, Anthem Pear, Wandering Aengus Wanderlust, Anthem Cherry, Anthem Hop & Anthem Chili

Plus, you will get small tastes of the Wandering Aengus Bloom and Wandering Aengus Wickson, which are not available to us on draft, but rather will be shared from the bottle. The latter is a dry and tart cider not readily available. This is a great opportunity to taste the different notes in these two lines of Oregon ciders and learn about them to boot.

Generic Draught Beer Growlers

JOIN THE GENERIC GROWLER MOVEMENT TODAY!

Governor Signs CCBA Bill into Law!
Governor Jerry Brown today signed into law AB 647, the CCBA sponsored bill authored by Assemblymember Wes Chesbro. This bill makes three separate changes to the state statute (we're mostly interested in the 1st change):

Amends the definition of beer manufacturer
Changes the regulations regarding the labeling of refilled growlers
Allows regional guilds and the CCBA to sample beer at association and guild meetings.

Below are the details of these changes. More information can also be found on our web site.

1) The CCBA supports current labeling law that requires a brewery to “obscure” information from another brewery on a container before refilling and selling it. We believe it is important that when a consumer takes home a container of beer that the container (growler, bottle or keg) be accurately labeled with the name of the brewery and the beer inside the container. In some cases, breweries were simply putting a growler into a brown paper bag to “obscure” the previous label and then putting their label on the bag to meet the current requirements. When the consumer walked out the door, they would often take the growler out of the bag, and the growler was then improperly labeled. The growler was labeled as being from Brewery A, but had beer in it from Brewery B. If you were Brewery A, you now had your growler with your name on it with beer in it from another brewery. The ABC had no way to enforce this under current statute. AB 647 adds simple language to B&P code section 25200(c), which states that the previous label must be completely obscured in a manner “not readily removable by the consumer….” Additionally, some breweries were obscuring the name of the previous brewery but not the logo or text from the previous brewery. AB 647 adds that “any information concerning any beer previously packaged in the container, including the information regarding the manufacturer and bottler of such beer, or any associated trademarks must be removed, or completely obscured.” Please read the CCBA Growler Clarification for complete details and best practices on growler refills.

Eater 38

Eater San Diego has updated their Eater 38 list, a list of 38 places you need to eat at, and it's awesome to see both BLAH and Tiger!Tiger! on the list. Cheers that!
  • Hi again, it's time to update the Eater 38, your answer and ours to any question that begins, "Can you recommend a restaurant...?" This specially selected group covers much of the city, spans myriad cuisines, and aims to collectively satisfy all of your restaurant needs. Every few of months, we'll be adding worthy restaurants that were omitted, have newly become eligible (restaurants must be open at least six months), or have stepped up their game.
  • This curated survey of the San Diego food landscape runs the gamut from the farm-to-table icon, A. R. Valentien in La Jolla to an instant classic, North Park's Carnitas' Snack Shack. There's a good number of Japanese entries (a cuisine that San Diego does pretty well), some neighborhood stalwarts (Urban Solace, Alchemy, Cafe Chloe), and a few gems that you may not have tried (Aqui es Texcoco, Wine Vault & Bistro).
  • In this installment, we add in three San Diego eateries that deserve inclusion: Prepkitchen's bustling outpost in Little Italy, the craft beer and food hotspot Tiger!Tiger! and the charming Fathom Bistro, Bait & Tackle perched on a Shelter Island pier.
  • Restaurants are listed in no particular order.

SINGLE TRACK HIGH
At the age of 16, many American kids trade in two wheels for four. Trusty steeds that once gave them freedom to explore on weekends now collect dust in the garage. For a growing number of high school students in Northern California, however, two wheels don’t get dusty, they get dirty. Their lives continue to revolve around weekend rides, but now those rides have a finish line. These are the student athletes of the NorCal High School Cycling League. This is Singletrack High.

8/12 WHAT DID YOU EXPECT: Archers of Loaf (Live Documentary)
"Jeff's Big Fat Indie Rock Birthday Party"
https://www.facebook.com/events/151680985037337/
WHAT DID YOU EXPECT? documents the Archers of Loaf s 2011 reunion tour and captures the excitement and explosive energy of two hometown concerts played at Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill, NC. Archers of Loaf were the greatest indie rock band of the 90s, says director Gorman Bechard. No one had more energy on stage. No one put out better records. And to be able to capture that power on film was a challenge and a thrill. The film features twenty songs with concert audio produced by the legendary Brian Paulson. Included are favorites such as Audiowhore, Web In Front, and Harnessed In Slums, as well as rarities like Bacteria and All Hail the Black Market. Interspersed between the live performances are interviews with all four band members on subjects ranging from how exactly they came up with what is considered one of the worst band names of all time, to what s changed about life on the road since 1991, and how they actually miss their old van. I wanted the film to be as in-your-face and balls-to-the-wall as the band is on stage, the director explains. We used seven cameras, most hand-held, to make what I truly believe is one of the most exciting concert films of all time.
